I recently started taking an advertising class at Art Center in Pasadena. It has been a really great experience and a lot of fun spending time with like-minded people who don't fast-forward through commericals, but pause to analyze them.
This piece is the fourth evolution of a homework assignment that started in week one. We were asked to create an ad for a fictitious tennis tournament called the "Texas Open". The primary purpose was to try and mash together elements from two different worlds (Texas and tennis) in an unexpected way.
Two of the fun things I have learned from this class so far:
1.) Ad-agami: fold the edges of your ad like oragami to see if your message changes. Helps you to simplify, removing unneccessary, distracting elements.
2.) Ad-jenga: like the game, you keep on removing details from your ad until it collapses. Another great way to simplify.
